Rosacea is a common, progressive skin condition which primarily affects the central part of the face. This, combined with the fact Rosacea is a long-term condition, often impacts sufferers outlook and self-confidence. Symptoms of rosacea start with repeated facial flushing or blushing which in time can lead to other symptoms, including permanent facial redness, sensitive skin – characterised by itchy, burning and stinging sensations – spots (pustules and papules) and thread veins, tiny blood vessels that enlarge becoming visible, particularly on the cheek and nose. In the most serious cases of rosacea, the soft tissue of the nose can swell and thicken, giving it a lumpy, bulbous appearance (rhinophyma). This is more prevalent in men than women and fortunately is quite rare.
Our Zeolight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatment is a proven, effective method for reducing the symptoms of rosacea, significantly improving the appearance of red veins and red pigmentation. Oxyhemoglobin in the blood below the skin absorbs the light from the IPL generating heat which destroys the red vein (also known as a broken capillary or ‘spider vein’) and encourages healthy, non-visible micro vessels (small blood vessels) to form.
Results
Zeolight IPL diminishes the signs of Rosacea in both men and women, eradicating thread veins – breaking them down so they are reabsorbed by the body – and significantly reducing redness across affected areas, predominantly, cheeks, nose, forehead and chin.
What to expect
Rosacea symptoms vary from person to person depending on what causes your skin to redden and how long you’ve had the condition. To ensure you get the best treatment for your skin, you’ll be invited for an initial IPL rosacea consultation at our skin clinic in Holywood. One of our highly trained aestheticians will discuss your symptoms and what you’d like to achieve. They will also explain how the IPL system works and answer any questions you may have.
Before the IPL session starts, your skin will be cleansed of any make-up and your eyes covered to protect them from the intense light. Due to the advanced IPL technology we use at The Tranquil Rooms, our IPL is completely safe and relatively painless, however you may feel a warm, tingling sensation each time the intense pulse light is triggered. Treatment time is short, lasting approximately twenty minutes.

IPL Rosacea Treatment FAQs
Q: What will my skin look afterwards?
Areas treated with IPL should appear normal afterwards, so it’s fine to go about your routine as usual. You can also apply a light dusting of mineral make-up which are suitable for most skins post IPL.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
On average, between one and three IPL treatments are required, this is less than average due to the effectiveness of our IPL system. It is advisable to have a maintenance session once every six-months to maintain the effect.
If your rosacea symptoms are severe, we may recommend more sessions, this will be discussed during your IPL consultation.
